Shooting with Tori Nonaka and Steve Howey of Shameless at Taran Tactical Innovations

Last week we received a call from champion pro shooter Tori Nonaka of Team Glock. She invited us to the private range of world champion shooter Taran Butler, founder of Taran Tactical Innovations by champion pro shooter . The range, located in Simi Valley, is situated in a picturesque knoll surrounded by lush green hills. 

Filled with premium steel targets for short-distance fun tactical runs and long-distance steel targets past 1000 yards, if you're fortunate enough to score an invite, take it. As we pull in, we can hear the ringing of steel and smell the gun powder in the air. Awesome. Even more awesome, we meet Michael Rooker of The Walking Dead who was just there for his own target practice. Taran's range is where champions and celebrities alike shoot together. He's hosted the likes of Josh Duhamel, Johnny Depp and director James Cameron among others. 

For those of you who have read Malcolm Gladwell's book, The Tipping Point, Taran Butler is a connector of the first order. He's always making sure those who come to his range are introduced to each other and he makes them feel incredibly at ease within the firearms community. He is an amazing man to get to know. He "persuades" Michael Rooker to take a photo with us (coming soon!) and then off we go to enter his funhouse. 

As we enter, we see the beautiful and talented Tori with her custom Taran Tactical Innovation base plates, personalized with her name on it! Sweet!

She blazes through the course as she gives lessons to Steve Howey from Showtime's hit show Shameless and formerly of Sons of Anarchy on FX. Steve is married to one of our favorite actresses - Sarah Shahi of Fairly Legal and Person of Interest! Congrats to the happy couple who are expecting twins! After meeting Steve in real life, you get a sense of how tiny Sarah must be. Steve is a giant of a man and so friendly!

Steve runs the course first with some tips for Top Gun Tori. According to Taran, the only celebrity who's going to outshoot him at this point is Jack Osbourne! Check out his strut at the end of the video! 

But when Tori Nonaka steps up to the plate, that's when the real show begins. This is just Tori having fun. She is that fast and that good. Go Team Glock!

We can only hope to get half as good as Tori someday! Our favorite steel target at Taran's range is the swinging tree. This is a great game to play with friends and to spur the competitive spirit. Here is Tori and fellow gun girl Rachel taking a crack at the steel swinging tree. We are obsessed.
